Down Catalunya is a non-profit organization that, for almost 20 years, has been working for the rights of people with intellectual disabilities, equal opportunities and their social inclusion.
Its creation arises from the will of some of the different associations and foundations of people with Down syndrome in Catalonia in order to form a joint platform to work on improving the quality of life of all people with trisomy 21 throughout Catalonia.
Since its founding in 2004, Down Catalunya has provided assistance to organizations that offer their services to people with intellectual disabilities and their families, promoting inclusion through educational projects, job placement or independent living, as well as promoting health programs and personal autonomy of people with intellectual disabilities.
This organization is committed to prioritizing actions and projects that minimize the impact of its operations on the environment, carrying out actions to reduce the use of non-renewable resources, minimizing the use of hazardous materials and promoting greater environmental responsibility in the coordinator, betting on energies that guarantee greater sustainability.
The Coordinadora has taken very seriously the reduction of its impact on its carbon footprint, both in reducing its own and in transferring it to the ten entities that comprise it, thanks to the support of the Carbon Footprint Association.
These measures demonstrate a deep concern for the well-being of society, both now and for future generations, with the understanding that a more environmentally friendly society is one that can offer a better quality of life to all citizens, especially those with intellectual disabilities, who often suffer the worst consequences of climate change.
