Down Catalunya is a nonprofit organization that has been working for nearly 20 years to promote the rights of people with intellectual disabilities, equal opportunities, and their social inclusion.
It was created through the efforts of several associations and foundations representing people with Down syndrome in Catalonia, with the aim of forming a joint platform to work toward improving the quality of life for all people with trisomy 21 throughout Catalonia.
Since its founding in 2004, Down Catalunya has provided support to organizations that offer services to people with intellectual disabilities and their families, promoting inclusion through educational projects, workplace integration initiatives, and independent living programs, as well as supporting health and personal autonomy programs for people with intellectual disabilities.
This organization is committed to prioritizing actions and projects that minimize the environmental impact of its operations, taking steps to reduce the use of non-renewable resources, minimize the use of hazardous materials, and promote greater environmental responsibility within the organization, while investing in energy sources that ensure greater sustainability.
The Coordinating Body has taken reducing its carbon footprint very seriously, both by reducing its own footprint and by extending this effort to the ten member organizations that comprise it, thanks to the support of the Carbon Footprint Association.
These measures demonstrate a deep concern for the well-being of society, both now and for future generations, based on the understanding that a more environmentally friendly society is one that can offer a better quality of life to all citizens, especially for those with intellectual disabilities, who often suffer the worst consequences of climate change.
